About The Artist
Silvy Ochoa
Silvy Ochoa is an accomplished and vibrant Colombian artist who discovered her passion for the Arts at the early age of six. It was then she noticed one wall in her house was painted in a dark green color, like the chalkboard at school. Being the curious & precocious child she was, of course she began drawing large dolls with chalk on the wall. The moment her mother saw her doing this, she made the decision to encourage the young artist instead of getting upset. This simple act had a big and positive impact. Silvy could then not stop herself from doodling and drawing everywhere. The artistic flame had been lit.
Beginning at the age of twelve, Silvy was enrolled in an after-school program at a very exclusive art school in her hometown of Cartagena, Colombia, Escuela de Bellas Artes. This is where she first learned and began honing her skills to paint on canvas with oils.
After graduating from high school and trying different careers, Silvy decided to take an admissions test to one of the most prestigious universities in Colombia, Universidad de Antioquia. To study there, everyone was required to take a written test that applied to all disciplines whether they be law, medicine, arts, etc. In that semester, there were over 1,200 applicants competing for one of only 38 spots in the visual arts program. Silvy ranked a very impressive 4th and subsequently studied art at the university for over four years. During her time as a student, she became proficient in many different media and techniques. This included drawing with different materials, painting with many different media, sculpture, photography, engraving, and more. She was exposed to, and immersed herself into many different kinds of artwork during those years. after four years studying Arts, life events forced her to move to a different city before she was able to complete her Bachelor’s of Art program. Despite this setback, she continued to pursue her passion.
Before moving to the United States in 2016, she did many commissioned art pieces, taught Arts, and even taught English as a second language. After living in the United States for a couple of years with her family, she decided to take a leap of faith and launch Silvy Art Studio in San Antonio, TX to offer her services as a muralist and portraitist to the public.
Silvy has done commissioned works for various brands and companies including, Tequila Cazadores, Deep Eddy Vodka, Bacardí Rum, and Juvo Plus among others.
